At the time of a paralyzing drought in the West we discover a girl whose father and two brothers are worried as much about her potential future as an old maid as they are about their dying cattle. For the truth is, she is indeed a plain girl. The brothers try every possible scheme to marry her off, without success. Nor is there any sign of relief from the dry heat, when suddenly, from out of nowhere, appears a picaresque, sweet-talking man with quite the sales pitch. Claiming to be a “rainmaker,” the man promises to bring rain, for $100. It’s a silly idea, but the rainmaker is so refreshing and persistent that the family finally consents, banging on big brass drums to rattle the sky. Meanwhile, the rainmaker also turns his magic on the girl, and persuades her that she has a very real beauty of her own. She believes it, just as her father believes the fellow can actually bring rain.

PLOT:
Twelfth Night, or What You Will
Twelfth Night, or What You Will
Welcome to Illyria, a land where nothing is quite what it seems. A stately leader pines for love like a school boy, a beautiful princess dons black and hides away from the world, nobles act ignobly, and knights run like cowards. Viola has shipwrecked upon the shores of this land and finds herself transformed as well in this comedic journey through grief and excess.

SIR TOBY BELCH – 40 – 60 Male
Olivia’s sleazy uncle. Who’s to say what type of man he was prior to the loss of his brother and nephew, but this man never met a con her didn’t like. A dogmatic pursuit of revelry and mirth has led him to become a fun-loving and boisterous drunkard with a who can turn on a dime when challenged.

SIR ANDREW AGUECHEEK -20s – 60s, Male
A Capitano/Chico Marx type. Loud, and vain, but not too bright; Andrew is here to woo Olivia and continues to fund Toby’s revels in the meantime. He is quick to a challenge, but a coward. Would love a European accent (French, Castilian, surprise me).

OLIVIA 20s – 40s. Female
A bright light shrouded in grief’s woolen blanket. A wealthy countess who is in mourning over the deaths of brother. And father. Smart and commanding, known for beauty and elegance, she is the object of Orsino’s passion, but finds herself re-awakened by the fiery tongue of Curio.

MALVOLIO – 30s – 60s MaleOlivia’s Head of the Household, he is the highest of the serving class. And since the death of Olivia’s brother and father, he has been the only male voice of authority or would be save the “visiting” Sir Toby Belch. Malvolio is officious, self-important and humorless while harboring a great desire to become equally matched with the woman he serves. He proudly speaks his disdain for Toby, Maria, Andrew and the rest of the rowdy crew in Olivia’s house.
FESTE – 18+, Any Gender
Olivia’s fool and a free spirit. Witty, droll, world-wise, and clever. A clown that has a streak of melancholy. They sing throughout the show and might (hopefully) play an instrument.

FABIAN – 18+, Any Gender
The cook at Olivia’s household. Rough around the edges but loves to take part in the shenanigans of Sir Toby’s crew.
