THE STORY: On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit?

The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. Please come prepared with a pen/pencil, a list of contacts, and a willingness to have a lot of fun! No resume/headshot required. Depending on turnout, cross gender casting MAY be considered.

PLOT:
Meet the Nowaks of Buffalo, NY. Clara and her three grown kids have always known they were special, ever since the miraculous Christmas Eve in 1942 when the Blessed Mother appeared to Grandpa in his barbershop! Daughter Ruth unveils her plan to write and star in a one-woman Christmas show about the family miracle so the “whole world will know!” However, as her plans for theatrical immortality unfold, the entire family’s faith is shaken to the very core when a deathbed confession causes the family legend to unravel. The results are heartfelt and hilarious.

Beverly – Female. 30s. The oldest daughter, an avid bowler, outspoken and opinionated.
Ruth – Female. 20s-30s. The middle child, a story-teller and aspiring actress who wants to move to the big city.
Jimmy – Male. 20s-30s. The youngest child, a big-hearted garbage man who is happy with his life.
